Udhayanidhi Stalin has already carved a niche for himself as a producer of quality films. But OKOK was significant for him since he has taken the avatar of an actor!
The right script at the right time with the right director, no doubt a conscious decision on Udhayanidhi’s part to team up with proven humour specialist Rajesh and in the company of Santhanam, leads to a great introduction for the debut actor.
There’s no big story in OKOK, but what makes the film tick? It’s smart packaging with Rajesh’s typical signature comedy - loads of witty one-liners, comical punches by Santhanam, fresh pair Udhay and ravishing Hansika and Harris Jayaraj in the scheme of things, the movie lives up to all the pre-release hype.
The story begins with Saravanan (Udhayanidhi) receiving his girl friend Meera’s (Hansika’s) wedding card. In order to stop the marriage, he sets out to Pondicherry along with his close buddy Parthasarathy aka Partha (Santhanam) in a janavasa car.
As they embark on the journey, a flashback opens up. Saravanan, a happy-go-lucky youth, and Partha work for a multiplex in the city.
Saravanan meets Meera at a traffic signal and falls for her charm instantly. He follows her and finds out that she is an aspiring airhostess and her dad is a deputy commissioner of police (Sayaji Shinde).
After Meera rejects Saravanan’s proposal begin the comical episodes of Saravanan, in the company of Partha, trying to impress Meera. Whether he succeeds in his endeavours or not is to be viewed on screen.
Considering it his debut, Udhay has done a convincing job. He is at ease in front of the camera and shows a lot of promise. But he needs to hone his dancing skills.
Kudos to him (being the producer as well) for allowing equal screen space to Santhanam. Udhay and Santhanam’s onscreen chemistry literally rocks!
Santhanam, of late in full form, hogs the limelight and sweeps you off your feet with his brilliant comic one-liners. Hansika looks captivating and has got a meaty role.
She is at her glamorous best in songs and gets the right emotions in the comic scenes. With a perfect lip-sync, she is a treat to watch.
Not to forget Saranya’s terrific performance as Udhay’s adorable mother who struggles to complete her graduation for 20 years. And then there’s Azhagam Perumal, Uma Padmanabhan and Sayaji who are ok in their roles.
You can see Arya, Sneha and Andrea in cameos, thanks to Rajesh’s clout.
There’s never a dull moment in the entire proceedings, though logic slips at several places. Harris’ music reminds one of his previous hit numbers with Kadhal Oru and Azhage being the highlights.
Balasubramaniam’s cinematography goes well with the mood of the film. The movie is a bit too lengthy. Nevertheless, it is clean summer fare worth a watch!

3 Tamil Movie Review Aishwarya Dhanush’s 3 is an intense-romantic drama, which is youthful at core. It can also be termed as an urban-centric film that chronicles a couple’s three stages of being-in-love. The debutant director has etched a story – with limited characters – keeping the new-age sensibilities in mind. She has also ensured to deliver what the modern-day men love to see on-screen. The movie 3 begins on a death note and instantly tells the audience that the movie is not all about regular affair, and there is something serious about it. Within a couple of minutes, a flashback takes us to a lively atmosphere, where Ram (Dhanush) is seen dressing up to go to college. On the rainy day, he leaves the house on his bike and sees a girl named Janani (Shruti Hassan) repairing her cycle in the middle of the traffic.
It does not take much-time for him to fall in love, which makes to do the things what every boy does in the initial stage. In no time, their love blossoms and after facing some minor hurdles, Ram-Janani ties the knot. The first half of 3 goes like a usual love story, yet giving hints that the story will take a serious turn in the next half. In the second half, the tale takes a shocking twist, where it is revealed that Ram is suffering from Bipolar Disorder, a psychological disease. Then, its subject focuses on his struggling to come out of the sufferings. The remaining part is advised to watch on-screen. Aishwarya Dhanush’s way of narration and maintaining the suspense till the end are impressive. She succeeds in the first half by keeping the story lively with some wonderfully written one-liners. The natural-progress of the love tale between the lead stars is interesting. But in the second half, she seems to have lost the grip on the script, as it is too dragging at parts.
The filmmaker has convinced the two phases of the film 3, but the last stage somewhat fails to impress the viewers. Dhanush wins the heart with his impeccable acting. He reminds his looks of Thulluvadho Ilamai as a young boy in the first half and with his intense side of a mature man in the second. His performance, especially in the climax scene and its penultimate sequence are heart-wrenching. His co-star Shruti Hassan has equally competed with him when it comes to performance. In fact, she has tried to give a natural touch to her role, thereby avoiding overacting. Other actors like Prabhu, Bhanu Priya, Siva Karthikeyan have done justice to their roles. Technically, the songs of 3 does not require any introduction, as the audio of the film has become a massive hit.
Especially, the track, ‘Kolaveri di…’ not only drew the nation’s attention but also our neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Cinematographer Velraj’s work is praise worthy, but Kota Bhaskar’s editing is not up to mark. The editor could have easily reduced the movie by at least 10-12 minutes, as the film gets boring at parts. Verdict: On the whole, 3 has a engaging tale backed by wonderful performances of Dhanush and Shruti Hassan. The film gets 60 out of 100.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’s audio was launched amidst much fanfare in London, last month. It is the first Tamil film for which AR Rahman had scored music after winning the coveted Oscar award. VTV audio rights have been lapped up by Sony Music India. The film stars Silambarasan and Trisha and has been directed by Gautham Menon. VTV is expected to hit the screens in February and the music will be available from January onwards.
According to the press release, “The music of VTV will be released physically on CDs & Cassettes across the world and via Amazon online retail store. Digitally VTV music will be available on iTunes, Nokia Store, and iPhone application on the first week of January… A user who downloads the songs on his iPhone or iPod will not be able transfer it to any other
unauthorized device.”

Priyadarshan, the badshah of illogical comedies trying art house cinema? I was shocked too, but Priyadarshan has made many path breaking, award worthy creations which is just overshadowed by the comedy blockbusters he churned up the past few years. But will his magic still work? It does! and how?
The only word which does succeed to come out of your mouth after seeing this masterpiece is 'WOW'. and I should thank Priyadarshan as I saw this movie on my birthday, what a birthday present he has blessed me with! "The best one ever!"
It is a period movie set in the pre independence era in a small town of Kanchivaram in Tamil nadu, the protagonist Prakash Raj works as a Vengadam, the best silk weaver in the town. He pledges that he would provide a silk saree for his daughter when she is getting married, which becomes the talk of the town as a weaver simply can't afford such a humongous price. He does save up some money but his brother-in-law ruins his plans, so to attain the inevitable he starts stealing a single strand of silk from the workplace, every single day and secretly weaves a saree for his daughter for 19 long years. He is involved in communism and heads a strike against his owner who gives paltry amount to the weavers, which comes as a deterrent to his daughter's marriage, which is drawing near. As the day comes close, he has to finish the silk saree on time. What will Vengadam do now? Find out for yourself.
The screenplay is so artfully done, the movie goes back and forth the time line with consummate ease. The editing is superlative. The street-play in the second half looked forced and the movie could have been better without it. The cinematography by Thiru is of international standards, the color tone gives the right background palate for Priyadarshan-the artist to work on. And the production design by Sabu Cyril just takes this art work to epic proportions.
M.G.Sreekumar the musician sways us with his titling music, especially the lori which is sung when Prakash Raj and Shreya Reddy's daughter is born, which is reprised to melancholy effect during the tragic finale.
The acting is of high order, leading the spectacular array of performance is the lead man of the story Prakash raj, whose portrayal of a Vengadam can only be termed as spectacular if not sensational. But such a great actor to whom all the emotions in the book comes so naturally is still having some trouble with getting his laugh right, his laugh always looks so forced and unnatural. Shreya Reddy as Vengadam's innocent wife has given a blinder of a performance. She did impress in her villainous role in Thimiru but she bowls everyone in the audience over by a performance which could even fetch her a national award. All the other actors do their job convincingly.
Overall, this movie is a work of art, a beautiful sonnet, a beautiful painting.

Plot:
The film depicts the fictional life[4] of Bodhidharma (Suriya), a master of martial arts and medical remedies, who is depicted in the film as the son of a great Tamil king of the Pallava Dynasty. He is sent to China by his guru, who requests him to stop the spread of a pandemic disease existing there from spreading to India. Initially the people in China treated him as an inferior but later when he cures a little girl from the deadly disease and fights against some people who ill treated villagers there, the people of China began to respect and worship him. He begins to teach them how to cure many diseases, the skills of hypnotism and the physical training of the Shaolin monks that led to the creation of Shaolinquan. However after few years, when he expresses his desire to return to India, the villagers plot to poison him and bury him near the temple, believing that their place would be disease free if he’s buried there. Bodhidharma agrees to die and subsequently becomes a fundamental figure in Chinese history, affectionately being dubbed as Damo.
The film switches to modern day China, where Dong Lee (Johnny Tri Nguyen) is given the task of starting a government planned biological war against India, known as Operation Red. Dong Lee starts this operation by injecting a virus into a street dog. This disease was the one which occurred during the time of Bodhidharma in China. Meanwhile Subha Srinivasan (Shruti Haasan) researched that Bodhidharma can be brought back to life if his sample of DNA is matched with another sample of DNA which she finds in Aravind (Suriya) a descendant of Bodhidharma who is working as Circus artist in Chennai. Shuba tries to give life to Bodhidharma to end the menace of Dong Lee. But Dong Lee, who is capable of doing anything, does all impossibly bad things, mastered in ‘Nokku Varmam’ (Hypnotism), a martial art which was actually taught to the Chinese by Bodhidharma. Shuba with the help of her friends from her genetic department tries to activate the Bodhidharma DNA in Aravind in a research centre. But Dong Lee with the help of Shuba’s professor who had received a huge sum of money from the China government helps him to trace the location of Shuba and her friends. But after Dong Lee traces them he then kills the professor. Dong Lee then locates the place of the research centre. Shuba and her friends in the research centre try to escape in a van but Dong Lee chases them and the van collapses. Aravind was beaten badily by Dong Lee at first then Arvind manages to regain Bodhidharma skills somehow in spite of the sunrays hitting him on his face which was not supposed to happen and a day before he was estimated to regain his skills. Then Aravind gets Bodhidharma’s talent and defeats Dong Lee. Later Aravind eradicates the virus spreading and then he gives a lecture about the need for us to remember our history and to teach all our practices in the name of science and not god.
